There are several apps that gain popularity during the back-to-school season in late August and early September, bringing in millions of new downloads and revenue for their developers. ClassDojo is one such example. This year, however, AI apps for studying and homework help have seen a surge in demand, with Gauth being the most downloaded.
Gauth’s Growing Popularity
Gauth currently ranks as the 3rd most downloaded app in the US App Store, surpassing popular apps like TikTok, Gmail, and WhatsApp. On Google Play, it ranks 8th, just behind Facebook. Gauth allows students to take photos of math problems, which its AI then solves, and also offers live tutors for more complex or in-depth math assistance.
According to AppFigures, Gauth was downloaded 1.5 million times last week alone. This means it achieved 147 downloads per second—about 10,000 downloads by the time you finish reading this review. Notably, last week was Gauth’s highest download week since its 2020 release, though it had previously seen impressive numbers in 2021.
Market Presence and Revenue
Gauth’s rise to popularity began in early June and has stayed ahead of its 2023 numbers for much of 2024. Google Play leads in downloads, with the Philippines, Indonesia, and Brazil being the top markets. In contrast, the App Store sees the highest downloads in the US, UK, and Vietnam.
The app’s success is also tied to its Apple Search Ads campaign, where it’s advertised across 1,700 unique keywords in the US, adds NIX Solutions. As a result, Gauth gets the largest share of impressions in its category. Since the start of 2024, the app has generated an estimated $2.3 million in net revenue from the App Store and Google Play, with $200,000 of that coming in August alone. Although this is less than a third of its closest competitor Mathway’s earnings ($772,000), it shows significant growth potential.
We’ll keep you updated on Gauth’s progress as it continues to gain traction in the market.
