NIX Solutions reports: AI Cannot Be Considered an Inventor

According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office‘s decision, artificial intelligence is now banned from being recognized as an inventor and patents granted, says Ferra.

The rule was introduced after the rejection of two patent applications, in which AI was indicated as the inventor, says NIX Solutions. The first application concerned a food container, and the second a flashing beacon. They were created by DABUS artificial intelligence.

The office said that only an individual can be indicated as an inventor. The organization that filed the application noted that the pronouns like“self,” which are used in the patent, could well be applied to the machine. However, the agency replied that such an interpretation is too broad.

The applicant organization considers that sometimes it is necessary to formalize the rights to artificial intelligence.
