A beta version of the Gboard keyboard has surfaced online, unveiling an exciting new addition – AI-driven grammatical error correction.
How Does It Work?
The new feature empowers the keyboard to seamlessly rectify text automatically or with a single tap within any input field. However, it’s important to note that Google has issued a cautionary advisory: this function operates in the cloud, and all entered messages will be transmitted to Google’s servers for error correction.
When you activate the AI proofreading feature for the first time, a pop-up window reads, “Use Gboard to proofread text, correct grammar, and punctuation errors with one tap. The text you enter will be sent to Google and processed to generate correction suggestions. The use of proofreading in Gboard is subject to the terms of use for generative AI…”
In Beta: Version 13.4
The new feature is currently available in beta as part of Gboard version 13.4, notes NIXsolutions. Early users have commended it as a significant evolution of the existing AutoCorrect feature. Nevertheless, some suggest that local text processing on the smartphone itself would be an even more desirable implementation.
