NIX Solutions: Live Translations in Google Meet

At its I/O event, Google introduced a new live translation feature for Google Meet, powered by Gemini AI. This technology enables users to hear each other in their own language during video calls, with the translated speech maintaining the original speaker’s intonation and emotion. The feature is currently available in beta.

In a demonstration video, one participant spoke English while the other spoke Spanish. Once the Gemini translation feature was enabled, each participant heard the other’s speech in their native language, with remarkable accuracy in tone and delivery, according to The Verge.

Limited Language Support for Now

At this stage, the feature only supports English and Spanish. However, Google has confirmed that Italian, German, and Portuguese will be added soon. The company states that these additional languages will roll out over the next few weeks. We’ll keep you updated as more integrations become available.

While Microsoft introduced a similar function for its Teams app earlier this year, Google’s version focuses more on natural-sounding speech. The company emphasizes that Gemini AI does more than just translate — it adapts the user’s voice so the output sounds fluid and organic.

Beta Access and Subscription Details

The live translation feature is currently in beta testing and available only to users subscribed to the Google AI Pro plan or the new AI Ultra plan, which costs $249 per month, notes NIX Solutions. There’s no confirmed date yet for the general release, but the final version is expected to roll out later.

As Google continues to refine this feature, it’s clear that real-time multilingual communication is becoming more accessible and human-like. Yet we’ll keep you updated as more languages and broader access options are introduced.
