Microsoft has swiftly made an advanced AI model, DeepSeek R1, available to customers, The Verge reports. Now part of the model catalog on Azure AI Foundry and GitHub, it allows Microsoft customers to integrate it into their AI applications seamlessly.
Fast Integration and Security Checks
“One of the key benefits of using DeepSeek R1, or any other model on Azure AI Foundry, is the speed with which developers can experiment and integrate AI into their workflows,” said Asha Sharma, Microsoft’s corporate vice president of AI.
DeepSeek R1 gained attention due to its cost-efficient training, which significantly undercuts OpenAI’s leading models. Its announcement caused a sharp drop in U.S. tech stocks this week. Microsoft has subjected the model to rigorous security measures, including automated behavior assessments and extensive red teaming, to mitigate potential risks.
Future Expansion and Local Availability
Microsoft plans to release a smaller version of DeepSeek R1 for local use on Copilot Plus PCs, notes NIXsolutions. Additionally, R1 may become available in other Microsoft AI services. We’ll keep you updated on further developments.
Previously, reports indicated that OpenAI and Microsoft were investigating whether a Chinese company had used OpenAI APIs to train its models.
