Perplexity has introduced Deep Research, a tool that creates detailed analytical reports in minutes. Unlike competitors, it provides access to advanced artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities at a significantly lower price. Experts believe this could reshape the AI services market.
AI Pricing Under Scrutiny
The launch of Deep Research has exposed the high cost of AI services. While Anthropic and OpenAI charge thousands of dollars monthly, Perplexity offers five free queries per day and 500 queries per day for Pro users at just $20 per month. According to VentureBeat, this may push major AI providers to justify their significantly higher prices.
At the same time, corporate AI spending continues to grow. In 2025, AI expenses are expected to rise by 5.7%, despite overall IT budgets increasing by less than 2%. Some companies plan to increase their AI budgets by over 10%, averaging $3.4 million in payments. However, with Deep Research offering similar capabilities at a fraction of the cost, such investments now seem questionable.
Strong Performance and Expanding Accessibility
From a technological perspective, Deep Research delivers impressive results, challenging the value of costly AI solutions. It achieved 93.9% accuracy in the SimpleQA test and 20.5% in Humanity’s Last Exam, outperforming Google Gemini Thinking and other leading models. Additionally, the tool completes most tasks in under three minutes, analyzing hundreds of sources and mimicking a professional researcher’s workflow.
Perplexity’s new tool is also redefining AI accessibility. Previously, only large corporations could afford advanced AI, leaving smaller businesses and independent professionals at a disadvantage. Now, Deep Research enables users to handle complex tasks—such as financial analysis, marketing research, and technical or medical documentation—at an affordable price.
To further expand access, Perplexity plans to launch Deep Research apps for iOS, Android, and Mac, adds NIX Solutions. The company believes this will accelerate adoption among users who previously viewed advanced AI as inaccessible. We’ll keep you updated as more integrations become available.
